About Me

I teach reading and coordinate testing at Two Rivers Community School, a public non-profit charter in Boone, NC. My journey has included growing up on the coast, loving and learning in the Appalachian Mountains, working as classroom teacher and naturalist, a lot of hard work and a little serendipity.

I LOVE: reading books aloud to children, studying the stars, eating entire frozen pizzas, swimming in almost any body of water, making lists, exploring new places, rearranging my furniture, sunbathing, identifying items from the natural world, seeing live music, remarking how handsome my cat is, funky outrageous earrings, walking on the beach, pretending I can play the guitar and sing, playing board games, and spending time with my friends, family, and honey Tom.

I LOOK LIKE: a tiny woman with a gentle pear shape that I inherited from my mother’s side of the family and all those frozen pizzas, a white girl with flippy fun hair, pencil thin lips that are crooked on one side from a childhood bike accident, kinda round cheeks that weren’t there in my twenties!

I ACT: like someone who has a serious work ethic that can give a false first impression of perfectionism, funny and sarcastic mostly at appropriate times, generally insecure when it comes to team sports, genuinely excited to sort, purge, organize, and label my own stuff as well as the stuff of others.

I REALLY DO NOT CARE FOR: people who use religion as an excuse to be haters, olives although I try all the time, really strong-smelling candles or perfume, how our country pays teachers so little, spending a lot of time showcasing myself on social media 😉

SOMETHING YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT ME: I am not very well read, I miss my mom these past few years, once I met Bill Murray, Channing Tatum, and had a dance party in a jail (not all at once), and sadly although I chose to work my entire life as an educator, I am not a morning person till after a cup of coffee.
